Conversation is important. If you can carry on great conversations then people will like you. If people like you they will help you, be your friends, want to be around you, want to work with you, and yes, sometimes even have sex with you. Being a great conversationalist is easy but there are a lot of misconceptions.
Being interesting, although wonderful, is not necessary. You don't need great stories about climbing Mount Kilimanjaro or how you saved a baby from a ferocious tiger. Storytelling, and great stories, is helpful but many people with great stories to tell are often horrible conversationalists, even if they tell their stories well.
Conversation, at least being a great conversationalist, is about listening. People like it when you listen to them. When you listen to people you get to know them better and can decide whether they are even worth getting to know better and continuing to listen to. If they're not worth listening to there is great chance they are not worth your time talking to, although they may be fine people indeed anyways.
You already pretty much know what you are going to say. Isn't it more interesting to listen to other people? Even the most ordinary experience can come to life and be interesting when described by another through their set of eyes and life experience.
Just listen to others more than you try to get them to listen to you. Ask questions about what they are saying. Interact with them and get to know them. Then they will like you, you will like them, and can go forewords.
I'm a pretty good conversationalist, although not the best, and I work to improve. I also write on numerous topics including wire closet organizer options and closet organizer systems.
